PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed Abdullah Ocalan's, jailed leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), call for the PKK to lay down arms and disband themselves.
The PUK President said in his message regarding Ocalan's call:
We welcome Abdullah Ocalan's statement, we think it as a responsible and necessary call at this stage to unite the Kurds and resolve issues through peaceful dialogue based on partnership and solidarity, paving the way for a brighter and more peaceful future for our people.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan views this statement as a significant step forward and considers it a national duty to support any initiative that fosters unity and brotherhood between Kurds and Turks.
We urge all parties to embrace this statement and take practical steps toward achieving comprehensive peace, seizing this historic opportunity—one that President Mam Jalal first laid the foundation for in 1993.
As always, we stand in solidarity with our Kurdish brothers and sisters across all four parts of Kurdistan.
Bafel Jalal Talabani
