Iraqi President Nizar Amedi.
Iraqi President Nizar Amedi has condemned the attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, stressing that Iraq does not accept the use of its territory or airspace as a launchpad for aggression against neighbouring countries.
In a statement issued on Saturday, 12 September 2026, President Amedi said protecting Iraq’s sovereignty and maintaining its relations with neighbouring countries were the responsibility of the state and its constitutional institutions.
The statement read:
“We strongly condemn the attacks targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reaffirm that Iraq does not accept the use of its territory or airspace as a launchpad for aggression against neighbouring countries.
“Furthermore, protecting Iraq’s sovereignty and maintaining its relations with its regional neighbours is the responsibility of the state and its constitutional institutions.
“We affirm our support for the measures taken by the government following these attacks and stress the need to continue investigations and take all necessary legal action against anyone proven to have been involved or responsible, in a manner that ensures such attacks do not recur.
“Iraq is committed to its relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and all neighbouring countries, and to consolidating security and stability while protecting the interests of the region’s peoples, free from any actions that could jeopardise these relations or undermine Iraq’s security and stability.”
