Qubad Talabani and Faiq Zedan: Political interference in the judiciary should not be allowed

Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Faiq Zedan, the chairman of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, to discuss the state of the judiciary in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as strategies for improving judicial ties between the two.

The Kurdistan Region's Judicial Council and the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council must improve their judicial ties, both parties agreed during the meeting that took place on March 15, 2023, in Sulaymaniyah.

The meeting also stressed the extradition of those wanted in both the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad who have not yet been arrested. It was also agreed that further coordination was necessary and that no party should obstruct the exchange of wanted individuals.

All parties concurred that maintaining the integrity of the court and preventing political meddling with it are essential to maintaining the dignity of the state.

The discussion also covered the state of governance in Iraq and Kurdistan, and in this regard, Qubad Talabani stated: "Right now, the largest difficulty facing the governance of Iraq and Kurdistan is how to improve the status of services; therefore, we must serve citizens better."
