In response to the US State Department's report on the state of human rights in the Kurdistan Region, Bashdar Hassan, the leader of the legal team representing the Badinan detainees, states that rather than bringing justifications for the authority, the government and the coordinator of international advocacy would be better off attempting to resolve the problem.
Bashdar Hassan's complete statement is as follows:
Rather than pleading and justifying the authority, the government and the international advocacy coordinator would benefit from putting their hand on the wound and attempting to heal it.
Following the Newroz celebrations, the US Department of State released a report on human rights in the Kurdistan Region on March 21st, 2023. We strongly support the report's facts, which address the current reality of the Kurdistan Region's internal situation. Unfortunately, human rights violations in the region have reached a tipping point and are worsening by the day!
The international advocacy coordinator is acting as the authority's lawyer and has switched from his specialty. It would have been better to coordinate with the government and relevant parties to address human rights violations in the Kurdistan Region rather than acting as a defense lawyer for the government and issuing statements against the reports, as we believe this will not lead to a positive outcome.
The solution to these problems and violations is simple: stop interfering with the judicial council's work, let the courts carry out their constitutional duties without interference from one side, and choose respected judges based on their qualifications rather than their allegiance to political parties!
If there is a wise plan, we can guarantee that the Kurdistan Region and the human rights situation will significantly improve, and our country will enjoy the highest levels of democracy and freedom.
"THE WHOLE NATION WILL BE CORRUPTED IF THE JUDICIARY IS CORRUPTED"
