PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), condemned the attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport. He stated, "We strongly condemn the futile attempt by foreign servants to undermine the safety of Sulaymaniyah borders."
The following is President Bafel's complete statement:
We Strongly condemn the futile attempt by foreign servants to undermine the safety of Sulaymaniyah borders.
Criminal acts and crossing the lines of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq under the guidance of a local security intelligence agency are not uncommon, and we have a long history with it. But Sulaymaniyah and its history, Sulaymaniyah, and its citizens are greater and more heroic than the meaningless imagination of one party to tarnish its reputation and harm the lives of its people.
The PUK has historically shown patience in order to maintain unity and advance the highest national interests. However, the ongoing inappropriate and unacceptable behavior of some security agencies of a political party operating under the shadow of an authoritarian government has gone too far and brought the situation to a halt.
We are proud to be Kurds and have a Kurdish identity. We hold Kurdistan in our hearts. We have confronted and will continue to face all threats for the sake of the lives of our people. A red line is when the peace of the Kurdistan Region and Sulaymaniyah is disturbed.
We will repeat it once again and louder; Either Kurdistan or dying.
Bafel Jalal Talabani
President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan
