President Bafel Jalal Talabani
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), congratulated the Yazidis on Red Wednesday and said that as an indigenous Kurdish minority, their lives and fate should not be gambled with for political or party purposes.
President Bafel's complete statement is as follows:
To all of my Yazidi brothers and sisters, I wish you a joyful and prosperous Yazidi New Year (Red Wednesday).
The Yazidis have undergone a tremendous deal of violence and suffering in the past and have made innumerable sacrifices. However, until now, efforts to make up for their losses and rebuild their ancestral territory have only existed as hazy slogans with no real action being taken.
The PUK has continuously backed the Yazidis and will continue to do so for any initiatives that would lead to a better future and ensure the Yazidis' lives are never in danger again. Everyone should respect the indigenous Kurdish minority, and their lives and fate should not be affected for political or party motives.
