PUK and Gorran: Elections should not be delayed any longer

A senior delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Gorran Movement convened in Sulaymaniyah. They highlighted the importance of the PUK and Gorran being more united and redrafting a plan to rebuild their relations appropriately for the current stage.

The two sides said in a joint statement:

The PUK and the Gorran Movement met to discuss the most recent political developments and methods to restructure their relationship.

At the beginning of the meeting held in Dabashan on Monday, May 1, 2023, the two parties congratulated the Kurdistan workers on International Workers' Day. Then they stressed the importance of implementing the new labor law to improve the lives and well-being of this significant social class.

The political situation in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq was then discussed in depth, with both parties underlining that the current political situation is neither in the people's best interest nor to anyone's satisfaction. Everyone should therefore work to strengthen and rebuild the Kurdish home and restore internal unity.

Continuing to discuss the internal situation in the Kurdistan Region, both parties agreed that the PUK and Gorran should be more cohesive and redesign the plan to rebuild relations in a manner that is compatible with this stage and confront challenges, as well as meet the needs of the citizens.

The meeting evaluated the service method, noting that services do not operate at the planned level, necessitating a review and action to enhance them. Thus, a new policy is required to eliminate discrimination and injustice.
 
In addition to reviewing the preparations for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections and the status of negotiations.  Both parties highlighted that an agreement on the elections must be made as soon as possible and cannot be postponed further.
