The President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, congratulated the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on the occasion of its 48th anniversary of founding and said, "This anniversary falls during a new period of great change for Iraq and the region, and now more than ever, all political parties and forces in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region must work together in harmony."
In addition to congratulating the Peshmergas, the fighters, and the PUK's ardent supporters, President Rashid expressed his hope that this occasion would give the late politician and fighter Mam Jalal's party a chance to reorganize and prepare for the subsequent stage of the political struggle to realize their aspirations and goals.
"Now more than ever, all political parties and forces in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region must work together in harmony," he continued, noting that this anniversary coincides with a new period of significant change for the region and Iraq.
"I wish you ongoing growth and development on par with the PUK's many years of adversity," President Rashid added.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani also congratulated the PUK and said:
"Today marks the 48th anniversary of the founding of the PUK, a national movement that stood against dictatorship and strove to fulfill cultural, social, and political aspirations and hopes for achieving democracy for the Kurdish people in particular and the entire Iraqi people in general.
On this occasion, we recall the late President Mam Jalal Talabani, the founder of the PUK and a unifying national figure, and his unrivaled efforts in building the new Iraq and setting the path of the constitution, justice, and equality."
