PUK President received a British delegation
President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Jalal Talabani, welcomed a British military delegation led by Air Marshal Sammy Sampson, Senior Advisor to the Middle East and North Africa for the UK Chief of Defence Staff.
Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, a member of the Political Bureau's Executive Board, Lieutenant Colonel Bakhtiar Mohammed, the Peshmerga Ministry's Secretary General, and Rosy Cave, the British Consul in the Kurdistan Region, met to discuss the unification efforts of the Peshmerga forces. The discussion highlighted the necessity of collaboration and teamwork between allies and Peshmerga forces in developing an effective national army capable of addressing difficulties.
President Bafel stated that the PUK is committed to all past agreements and understandings reached to unite the Peshmerga forces. He also praised the ongoing efforts of coalition forces and acknowledged the sacrifices that they have made to maintain stability. "We do not want these understandings to be misguided and this national issue to fall prey to partisan interests," he continued.
President Bafel stated further: "While the Peshmerga must simultaneously serve the national interests and defend our territory, people, and flag, the PUK will not compromise on the rights of the Peshmerga or the development of their capabilities."
