Deputy Prime Minister and EU Representative in Kurdistan
Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani
received the European Union Representative in the Kurdistan Region, Torkild Byg,
and discussed the attack on the Counter Terrorism Group (CTG) forces at the
Arbat airfield.
The representative of the EU strongly
condemned the bombing of Arbat airfield at the meeting held on Wednesday in
Erbil and hoped that such an incident would never happen again.
Talabani stated, "This incident is a
dangerous incident in which an official Iraqi and Kurdish force, the Kurdistan
CTG force, was targeted." Since its founding 20 years ago, it is evident
that the force has been a major ally of the Coalition Forces in the fight
against terrorism.
"All of the brave Kurdistan
Peshmergas who were martyred and injured were CTG members," Talabani
declared, dismissing the transgressor's justifications. There were no other
forces on the airfield besides the CTG."
The Deputy Prime Minister urged the Iraqi
government, its allies, and the European Union to take concrete action to
defend Iraqi sovereignty, prevent such violations from occurring again, and end
military assaults on Iraqi and Kurdish territory.
