Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), welcomed Jeanine Antoinette Plasschaert, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq, in Baghdad.
President Bafel praised the United Nations for its positive contributions to the political process in Iraq and the Kurdistan region and emphasised the importance of increased collaboration in maintaining national stability.
The discussion centred on the political situation, elections, and concerns about employee salaries in the Kurdistan Region. It stressed the importance of maintaining a responsible discourse in order to address problems and improve people's quality of life.
President Bafel described the challenges and highlighted the PUK's efforts to address the situation and hold fair elections that accurately reflect the Kurdistan Region. He also emphasised that elections should strengthen democracy while also promoting political and social stability.
Furthermore, he stated that "the PUK's goal is to create a more promising future for our cherished citizens." We are currently in talks with Baghdad to address all issues and prioritise the safety and well-being of people in all conflicts."
