Iraqi Presidency
Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid.
Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid made a statement in response to a comment made by a member of the United States (U.S.) Congress. The Iraqi President affirmed that the Iraqi judicial system is the most robust and independent legal system in the area.
The complete statement of the Iraqi President read as follows:
"We denounce the remarks made by Mike Waltz, a Republican member of the U.S. Congress, as they not only target Judge Faiq Zidan, the President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, but also undermine the independence of the Iraqi judiciary, which is a crucial cornerstone of the state.
We affirm that the Iraqi judicial system is the most robust and independent compared to other judicial systems in the area. Its primary role is to ensure justice, uphold the principles of law, and safeguard the lawful rights of citizens, enabling them to enjoy a life of freedom and dignity. The security and political stability observed in Iraq provide undeniable proof of this fact.
The recurrence of such reckless remarks could impact the character of bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States of America."
