The Kurdistan Region Security Agency (Asayish) has confiscated 44 books covered in crystal meth that smugglers attempted to bring into Kurdistan and then ship them to the UK.
In a statement sent to PUKMEDIA, the Asayish said: "The Asayish's Directorate of Eliminating Drugs has examined the books at the laboratory of the Sulaymaniyah Forensic Medicine Institute. The laboratory testing revealed that the books were contaminated with crystal methamphetamine (meth)."
According to the statement, the operation was conducted following intelligence information and thorough monitoring by the Directorate of Eliminating Drugs. The traffickers had the intention of illegally transporting the drugs to Kurdistan via transit and then ship them to the UK. Nevertheless, due to the proficiency of the security forces and the directives of the examining court, a suspect was apprehended and all the books were seized.
The suspect has been arrested pursuant to Article 26 of the Anti-Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and an ongoing investigation is being conducted into his case.
