Iraqi President Reiterates His Commitment to Supporting Women

On Thursday, 25 July 2024, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, met with Iraqi athlete Shilan Shamal and her family in the Iraqi Embassy in Paris.

President Rashid emphasised that the participation of an Iraqi female athlete in carrying the Olympic torch is a representation of the high standing and achievements of Iraqi women, highlighting their exceptional skills, innovation, and noteworthy contributions to the world.


President Rashid reiterated the Iraqi presidency's constant commitment to empowering and supporting women. He stated that every barrier would be eliminated to guarantee their complete involvement in decision-making procedures throughout the country.

Shilan Shamal conveyed her appreciation for the support of His Excellency towards women and expressed her happiness at the chance to meet him.
