Iraqi President Gives Rebwar Taha Republican Decree Appointing Him as Kirkuk's Governor

Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, the President of Iraq, met with Rebwar Taha at the Salam Palace in Baghdad and officially designated him as the governor of Kirkuk by presenting him with a decree.
No issues was found regarding Taha's appointment as governorThe press office of the Iraqi president released a statement, which was also forwarded to PUKMEDIA, announcing that Dr. Abdullatif Rashid, the Iraqi President, has signed a republican decree appointing Rebwar Taha as the governor of Kirkuk.
According to information gathered by PUKMEDIA, the appointment of Rebwar Taha as Kirkuk Governor has been referred to the Iraqi Corruption Commission. After doing their research and monitoring, no problems or concerns were identified. Therefore, following legal and protocol rules, the president has formally appointed him as the governor of Kirkuk today.
Iraqi President: The strength of Kirkuk lies in its diversityDuring the decree presentation, the Iraqi president emphasised the need to ensure top-quality services for the people of Kirkuk, encompassing all communities. He acknowledged the city's past hardships and highlighted the diversity of Kirkuk as the source of its strength and stability.
For his part, Rebwar Taha emphasised his commitment to collaborating with all political factions in Kirkuk to serve the diverse communities residing in the city.
Rebwar Taha: We will promote Kirkuk's development"I will be the governor for all communities in Kirkuk, without any form of discrimination. Our responsibility will be to promote the city's development and reconstruction," stated Kirkuk Governor Rebwar Taha during a press conference after the decree was issued.
Rebwar Taha was elected by the majority of the councilOn August 10, 2024, the Kirkuk provincial council convened a meeting with the attendance of nine council members. During the meeting, Rebwar Taha was designated as the governor of Kirkuk, while Mohammed Hafez was chosen as the chairman of the Kirkuk provincial council.
The August 10 elections included the participation of four factions representing the Kurdish, Arab, and Christian communities. Nevertheless, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Arab alliance led by Rakan al-Jubouri, the Turkmen Front, abstained from attending the meeting and refrained from casting their votes, despite holding seven seats in the council.
