The Minister of Migration and Displaced has reported that over 800 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have relocated from two camps in Erbil Province to their original residences in Nineveh Province. The minister also stated that further IDPs will return in the coming days.
In a statement, the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displaced reported that on August 21, 2024, a total of 803 IDPs from Bahrka and Harsham camps in Erbil have successfully returned to their homes in Nineveh.
The statement indicated that the IDPs who have returned from the two camps will get financial and humanitarian aid, as well as essential resources, to facilitate their resettlement in their home regions.
The Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displaced has formulated a comprehensive strategy to resolve the problem of IDPs. To encourage their return, the government will offer various incentives, including the reconstruction of their areas and covering the expenses associated with their return. Additionally, each family will receive a sum of 4 million Iraqi dinars along with several other services.
During the past two weeks, over 2,300 IDPs from the Khazir, Hassan Sham, Harsham, and Bahrka camps in Erbil have already returned to their homes in the provinces of Anbar and Nineveh, and the process will continue.
