During the press conference that followed today's PUK Leadership Council meeting in Erbil, the PUK Spokesperson reported that the council discussed a number of important topics, including the pre-election period and the current situation in the Kurdistan Region.
PUK Spokesperson Saadi Ahmed Pire stated during a news conference that the meeting focused on the situation in the Kurdistan Region and the pre-election stages.
He said, "Another significant issue addressed during the meeting was the delay in salary payment. The PUK team in the government in Baghdad was tasked with resolving this issue, as there are attempts from certain sources to distort the salary and entangle it with political disputes. Both the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad are obligated to adhere to the rulings of the Federal Court regarding salary matters."
"Regrettably, it is evident that the individuals who were brought to participate in the August 31 tragedy demonstration in Erbil were foreigners. And it is evident that certain articles published in newspapers in Erbil are predetermined," stated Pire.
"The PUK unequivocally endorses any endeavour to address the concerns and urges for a peaceful campaign and election process, enabling citizens to assert their rights through their votes," he added.
On Monday, September 2, 2024, the PUK Leadership Council, led by PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani, met in Erbil, the Kurdistan Region's capital, to discuss the most recent political developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the broader region.
