The individuals injured on February 17, 2011, and in the days that followed have entrusted the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) with resolving their cases. An advisor to the PUK President confirms that these individuals are insisting on the resolution of their complaints against the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
Bestun Fayaq, Advisor to PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani, told PUKMEDIA: "People who were injured on February 17 and the following days see the PUK as their defender and will communicate their demands through the PUK."
"The PUK will take ownership of the February 17 case and whatever comes with it," he added.
"As a result, the injured victims from that event will now convey their messages through the PUK and regard the PUK as the sole owner of their case, refusing to give any other party the right to assert ownership of their case," he stated.
On February 17, 2011, a large-scale protest took place in Sulaymaniyah, killing several young people and injuring over 35 others as a result of gunfire and violence perpetrated by the KDP's Fourth Branch on Salim Street. The demonstrations spread to several other areas and lasted nearly two months, despite the filing of legal complaints against the accused members of the KDP's Fourth Branch. However, the case has reached no fruitful resolution.
