DPM Talabani: We Must Globalise Higher Education

The Next Step Fair, an extensive event for 12th-grade graduates, kicked off in Sulaymaniyah on Sunday, September 22, 2024, with various educational possibilities, discounts, and exclusive deals offered to students.

The Next Step Fair is overseen by Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region. The inaugural event, attended by DPM Talabani and Sulaymaniyah Governor Haval Abubakr, commenced at 11 AM today at the Culture Factory in Sulaymaniyah and will last for three days.

DPM Talabani said during the event: "We want the education and higher education standards in Kurdistan to reach their peak, giving students the opportunities for effective learning, and we must ask how educational institutions teach and grow students."

"Education will always encounter new opportunities and challenges; however, students must be encouraged to handle their own issues and plan for their futures, while educational institutions must be connected to the labour market, as we need skilled professionals to integrate into the labor market," he stated.

The Deputy Prime Minister added: “We hope that public and private universities and educational institutions compete on educating and seeking the best."

"I am hopeful, and I do see growth, but we must benefit from global advancements, link our centers with them, and globalise higher education," he added.

The Next Step event is being held in Sulaymaniyah for the second consecutive year. This event is dedicated to 12th grade graduates, with participation from over 40 public and private universities and institutes. 

Last year, around 2,500 children engaged in the show, and this year, approximately 10,000 students are anticipated to participate.

The twelfth grade is the final year of high school in Iraq, after which students pursue further education at colleges and universities upon graduation.
