In a crucial moment for the Kurdistan Region, candidates from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are highlighting the importance of authentic voter engagement in the upcoming elections. The candidates emphasised President Bafel Jalal Talabani's achievements in revising the electoral legislation, removing obstacles to fair elections, and guaranteeing that this election will be significantly different.
Authentic votes represent the will of the masses
Ismail Omar, candidate No. 35 in the Erbil constituency on the PUK list No. 129, stated to PUKMEDIA: "President Bafel Jalal Talabani succeeded in his efforts to amend the electoral law and, on behalf of all political parties, removed the obstacles to a fair election. Therefore, this election will be different."
“The PUK has worked to implement a multi-constituency voting system, ensuring that no candidate’s vote is transferred to another. The Iraqi biometric registration will be used for the election because it provides a clean record, free from duplicate names, deceased individuals, and those from outside the region," he added.
The PUK successfully regained electoral rights
Lozan Mina Hamad, candidate number 33 on the PUK list 129 for the Kurdistan Parliament in the Sulaymaniyah constituency, told PUKMEDIA: “The PUK has succeeded in a legal battle in the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court to ensure genuine elections with a clean voter registration, benefiting all citizens, which is is a significant achievement for the people of the Kurdistan Region.”
"This electoral system will prevent fraud and uphold the value of people's votes, as it is multi-constituency, allowing individuals in different regions to elect their true representatives," she added.
Elections will restore balance to the political landscape
Muhanad Faisal, candidate No. 10 in the Duhok constituency on PUK list No. 129, stated to PUKMEDIA: “The upcoming elections will be entirely different and can restore balance to the political system and governance in the Kurdistan Region, establishing a government that serves everyone without discrimination between regions.”
He further said: "People's votes will not be wasted in the upcoming elections due to the new mechanisms implemented to oversee the process. Their votes will help establish a government capable of serving the citizens and protecting the region from foreign interference, particularly in light of the occupation of large areas of Duhok Province."
