DPM Talabani Emphasises the Importance of Transparent Elections in Kurdistan

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Mohammed al-Hassan, the Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

During their meeting, DPM Talabani congratulated Mr. Hassan on his new role and wished him success, expressing his willingness to cooperate with the UNAMI.

Both sides focused on the upcoming elections for the Kurdistan Parliament, emphasising the necessity for transparent and fair elections, as well as the importance of political parties respecting the results.

In this context, Talabani highlighted the significance of these elections for the Kurdistan Parliament, asserting that to ensure transparency and integrity, and to strengthen the democratic process in the Kurdistan Region, it is crucial for the UN and international entities to closely monitor the electoral process for building confidence among citizens and political parties in the electoral system.
