After 11 hours, the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections concluded on Sunday evening, October 20, 2024, in all four constituencies of the Kurdistan Region: Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and Halabja.
The sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections commenced at 7 AM today and continued until 6 PM. Voting took place in 1,266 polling centres and 6,318 polling stations, with three VIP polling stations established in Baghdad, Erbil, and Sulaymaniyah.
According to information obtained by PUKMEDIA, there were 2,899,578 voters registered biometrically in the Kurdistan Region, where 2,683,618 of them were general voters.
The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) prepared all logistical materials for voting day, printing 3,077,550 ballot papers for the general election. Each one included 136 electoral lists with 1,191 candidates, of which 368 are female candidates. They also included 84 independent candidates for general seats, 20 for Turkmen seats, and 18 for Christian seats.
The IHEC selected 40,901 polling staff and trained them on voting procedures and the use of electoral devices. A total of 7,067 voting machines, 7,067 verification machines, and 1,431 result transmission machines were used.
The IHEC also distributed cameras, with a total of 22,283 cameras allocated—four cameras for each polling centre, two for each polling station, and four backup cameras for each registration centre, in addition to 50 cameras distributed across four audit centres.
For monitoring, there were 1,830 international observers, alongside 9,610 accredited local observers and 43,139 agents from political parties.
Special voting (voting of security services) of Kurdistan parliamentary elections was conducted on Friday, October 18, 2024, where out of 215,960 special voters, 208,521 voters cast their ballots and voting turnout was 97%.
1,926 local and international observers and 3,750 party representatives observed the special voting process and of the total number of special voters, 203,773 were male and 4,748 were female.
There were 165 polling centres designated solely for special voting in the Kurdistan Region, including 62 centres in Erbil, 57 in Sulaymaniyah, 33 in Duhok, and one in Halabja. In total, there were 749 special polling stations across all four constituencies, comprising 306 stations in Erbil, 276 in Sulaymaniyah, 142 in Duhok, and 3 in Halabja.
In addition to the four provinces of the Kurdistan Region, polling stations were also set up in Kirkuk, Baghdad, Salahaddin, Nineveh, Diyala, Wasit, and Anbar for the special voting of the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament.
After six years, the general and special voting of the elections for the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament took place, where the special voting took place on October 18, 2024, and general voting took place October 20, 2024.
