The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has established three committees to categorise the complaints submitted about the special and general elections for the Kurdistan parliament, with a total of 189 complaints grouped into three categories.
"The IHEC has established three committees to categorise the complaints submitted during the two days of the special and general elections, during which a total of 189 complaints were lodged," stated IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai to PUKMEDIA.
"The committees will be presided over by Board of Commissioners members, and the committee members will consist of legal professionals specialising in investigating complaints," she stated.
The committees classify complaints into three types:
First – Yellow: In this case, the complaint is dismissed right away due to its violation of the IHEC’s guidelines or failure to satisfy the legal criteria of complaints.
Second – Green: In this case, the complaint will have no effect on the election results. It is a violation committed by IHEC employees or representatives of political parties and security forces, where this case it requires investigation and punishment of the person who committed the violation.
Third – Red: It will affect the election results. The IHEC will address these complaints with due seriousness, ultimately rendering a conclusive conclusion, which may involve rejecting the results, annulling them, or implementing any other suitable action in response to the violations.
On October 18, 2024, the security services' special voting of the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections was held, where the IHEC registered 71 complaints, 11 in Duhok, 11 in Erbil, 25 in Sulaymaniyah and 24 in Halabja.
On October 20, 2024, the general voting of the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections was held, where the IHEC registered 118 complaints, 30 in Erbil, 61 in Sulaymaniyah, 26 in Duhok and 1 in Halabja.
