The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has announced plans to audit votes from polling stations in Sulaymaniyah that were not initially counted. The review process commenced yesterday in Duhok and is set to continue until tomorrow, in Erbil.
Beginning on October 22, 2024, the audit of uncounted polling stations will take place over three days, with the second session starting at 9:00 am today in Sulaymaniyah. This move aims to ensure transparency and accuracy in the electoral process.
The IHEC has previously released preliminary results from the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, revealing that 99.63% of the votes have been counted. However, the commission is still awaiting voting data from 26 polling stations.
In an earlier announcement, a photo was sent to PUKMEDIA to provide clarity on the auditing process. The IHEC has encouraged all agents, party allies, observers from international and local organisations, and journalists to closely monitor the auditing activities at the centres.
The election process began on October 18 with special voting, followed by general voting on October 20, overseen by the IHEC.
The commission's commitment to a thorough audit reflects its dedication to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process in the Kurdistan Region.
