The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has announced that it will begin accepting appeals against the decisions of the Board of Commissioners regarding the results of the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections from today, Thursday.
Jumana al-Ghalai, the Spokesperson for the IHEC, informed PUKMEDIA that appeals can be submitted starting Thursday, 31st October 2024, and will be accepted until the close of working hours on 3rd November 2024.
She explained that appeal requests may be made at the electoral governorate offices in the Kurdistan Region, the commission’s office, the national office, or directly to the judiciary.
According to the law governing the IHEC, a political party or candidate has the right to appeal the Board of Commissioners’ decision within three days from the day after the results are published. Appeals can be lodged at the national office, any electoral office of the commission, or directly with the judiciary.
She added that the Board of Commissioners is required to respond to the Judicial Body for Elections queries regarding the appeals within seven working days of receiving them. The Judicial Body for Elections must then reach a decision on the appeal within ten working days following the Board of Commissioners’ response.
