DPM Talabani & German Military Delegation Discuss Security Matters

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met with the German military delegation, led by Colonel Thomas Ritter, the newly appointed commander of the German forces in the Kurdistan Region. The discussions centred on the reform of the Peshmerga Ministry, along with several other matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, attended by Shorsh Ismail, the Minister of Peshmerga, and Lieutenant Colonel Bakhtiar Mohammed, the Secretary General of the Peshmerga Ministry, Qubad Talabani congratulated Colonel Ritter on his appointment as the new commander of German forces in the Kurdistan Region. He wished him success in his role and expressed his full readiness to provide any necessary assistance and support to the German forces in the region.
The DPM expressed his gratitude to the German government and parliament for agreeing to extend the presence of German troops in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He also commended Germany for its continued cooperation and support to the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the fight against terrorism and the ongoing reform process within the Peshmerga forces.
Another key topic of the meeting was the challenges hindering the reform process in the Ministry of Peshmerga. In this regard, Qubad Talabani stressed the importance of the next government offering strong support to the reform efforts within the Peshmerga forces.
The meeting also addressed the situation in the surrounding region. In this regard, Qubad Talabani stated that terrorism remains a significant threat to security and stability in both Iraq and the wider region. He emphasised the need for increased cooperation and coordination between the security forces of Kurdistan and Iraq, alongside their allies.
