The 27th Galawezh International Festival.
Sulaymaniyah is hosting the 27th edition of the Galawezh Cultural Festival, an event that sees the participation of numerous guests from around the world and features a variety of activities. Prizes will be awarded to the top winners in both literary and artistic competitions.
Dr. Ibtissam Ismail Qadir, President of the Galawezh Centre, told PUKMEDIA: "The festival will begin on the 5th of this month and will run until the 7th."
She added that other activities include the opening of a book fair, which will feature works by authors from various countries, alongside a handicrafts exhibition showcasing women’s products. Dr. Ismail also explained that the festival will host 12 researchers from Kurdish, Persian, and Arab backgrounds. Golden prizes will be awarded to the top winners in the literary competitions.
Dr. Ismail further clarified that two gold prizes will be presented—one to a foreign writer and another to a Kurdish writer. The festival’s programme will also include a series of poetry, storytelling, and critical sessions, as well as various intellectual and aesthetic discussions.
She noted that the festival has an international character, welcoming guests from across Europe, the Middle East, and other parts of the world. The festival is organised by the Galawezh Centre, with financial support from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. Dr. Ismail emphasised that the festival’s goal is to explore the roots of local, Arab, and global culture.
The festival's president also mentioned that the event has been held without interruption for 27 years and, this year, it will host over 180 literary and cultural figures.
