PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani's meeting with German CG Albrecht von Wittke.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Albrecht von Wittke, German Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.
They discussed the general situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Middle East and emphasised the continuity of coordination and joint work between all parties in order to resolve issues and maintain stability in the region.
Regarding the situation in Syria and Rojava, President Bafel said: "The country is going through a sensitive stage and everyone should work to achieve peace and prosperity in the region. In the new Syria, the rights of everyone, especially the Kurdish people, must be protected and they must be genuine partners in the governance of the country."
Regarding the situation in the Kurdistan Region and the establishment of the new government, President Bafel stated, "Our position on the new government is clear; we do not want to repeat the mistakes of the past. The new government must work for and serve all People of Kurdistan in a fair and non-partisan manner. We oppose all forms of violence and division, and our goal is peace and coexistence; yet, we believe it is our obligation to defend people's rights and react to their legitimate demands. Thus, we hope that all other parties would share our vision and work together to guide the regions towards development and stability."
Regarding the unification of Peshmerga forces, President Bafel highlighted the International Coalition's support and assistance in ensuring the process's success, saying: "Unifying the Peshmerga is a national and decisive process. We hope that party obstacles do not impede the process, and that we can all work together to establish a robust force for Kurdistan."
