PUK President, Bafel Jalal Talabani.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), released a statement on the 34th anniversary of the glorious uprising of the people of Kurdistan, emphasising that the PUK, as the architect of the uprising, will persist in defending the rights of Kurds.
The following is the full text of President Bafel Jalal Talabani’s statement:
On the 34th anniversary of the great Kurdish people’s uprising, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the proud families of the martyrs, the veteran Peshmergas, the fighters of the Kurdish struggle and the new revolution, as well as the people of the Kurdistan Region.
The uprising, which began in the proud city of Ranya, belongs to the PUK, the bravery of its organisations, armed cells, and partisans of the new revolution, as well as the unity of the Kurdish forces on the Kurdistan Front. This demonstrated that oppression and injustice can never silence the voice or break the will of our people.
Today, more than three decades on, it is our collective duty to unite our efforts in strengthening the spirit of brotherhood and unity, fostering trust, and advancing towards the establishment of a strong and just government. With renewed determination and leadership, we must address shortcomings, better serve our beloved people, and work together to uphold our lofty aspirations.
The PUK, as the architect of the uprising, driven by sacrifice, the blood of martyrs, and national responsibility, will persist in defending the rights of our nation and working to improve the lives and welfare of our beloved people.
Deepest respects and salutations to the souls of the martyrs of the uprising and to all the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives on the path to our people’s liberation.
Bafel Jalal Talabani
President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan
