SOHR Reports Alarming Numbers in Civilian Casualties

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported alarming numbers in civilian casualties as clashes continued between the Syrian National Army and remnants of the Assad regime in northwestern Syria.
According to the SOHR's statement on Friday, 7 March 2025, 60 citizens, including 10 women and 5 children, were killed and executed in the city of Baniyas by members of the Syrian government's security forces.
The statement added that the field execution squad of the Syrian government's security forces executed 24 citizens in the village of Al-Shir in the Latakia countryside, 38 citizens in the village of Al-Mukhtariyah in the Al-Haffah in Latakia, 7 citizens in Duwayr Baabda and Beit Ana in the countryside of Jableh in Latakia, 7 citizens in Al-Haffa, 2 young men in Yahmour in the countryside of Tartous, and 22 citizens in the village of Qarfeis in Latakia.
The SOHR also reported that 240 people, including Syrian forces, the gunmen, and civilians, were killed in different circumstances during Friday's clashes in northwestern Syria.
The head of the SOHR for Human Rights, Rami Abdel-Rahman, said his UK-based monitor had documented the execution of at least 90 civilians from the Alawite sect, to which al-Assad belongs, by government forces in Syria's coastal area.
According to the SOHR, the clashes, which broke out on 4 March 2025, have so far killed 360 people.
