The President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, shared a message on his X account to mark the occasion of Akitu, the Babylonian New Year.
President Rashid said: “On the occasion of Akitu, the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year, we extend our congratulations to our Chaldean, Assyrian, and Syriac communities, wishing them a joyous celebration filled with prosperity, blessings, and well-being.
This festival, with its roots stretching back thousands of years, reflects the deep civilisational heritage and religious and cultural diversity of Mesopotamia. It reminds us all of the importance of safeguarding past achievements and striving towards a future of peace, love, and shared prosperity.
