The boycott of the Kurdish blocs over the Halabja Provincialisation Bill caused the Iraqi parliament to postpone its meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 8 April 2025.
Chro Hama Sharif, a member of the Iraqi parliament from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc, told PUKMEDIA: "Even though the Iraqi parliament was supposed to meet tomorrow, the deputy speaker of the parliament called off the session, as all Kurdish blocs unanimously boycotted the session because the agenda did not include the Halabja Provincialisation Bill.
"Kurdistani blocs have decided to prevent any bill from passing until the Halabja Provincialisation Bill is included in the parliament's agenda," she added.
The PUK, along with all other Kurdish blocs in the Iraqi parliament, vowed to continue boycotting parliamentary sessions unless the Halabja Provincial Bill is added to the parliament's agenda to be passed.
The Iraqi Parliament had previously completed the second reading of the bill, with only the final vote remaining. However, the bill is yet to be passed due to obstructions from the Arab blocs, who have cited various excuses, despite their previous commitment to approving the legislation.
