First Kurdish Newspaper 'Kurdistan'.
The Media and Awareness Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) congratulated journalists on the occasion of Kurdish Journalism Day, while reaffirming commitment to the values and vision of President Mam Jalal, upholding the principles of professional journalism and democracy.
It is noteworthy that every year, Kurdish journalists and people across Kurdistan celebrate Kurdish Journalism Day on 22 April to commemorate the publication of the first Kurdish newspaper, ‘Kurdistan’.
The PUK Media and Awareness Bureau's message for Kurdish Journalism Day read:
On the occasion of Kurdish Journalism Day and the 127th anniversary of the publication of the first Kurdish newspaper 'Kurdistan' by Miqdad Madhat Badirkhan in Cairo, Egypt, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all Kurdish journalists who have contributed to the advancement of the journalism movement and the expansion of freedom of expression and the written word.
At the Media and Awareness Bureau, we remain committed to the values and vision of President Mam Jalal, upholding the principles of professional journalism and democracy. We actively support and coordinate with writers and journalists, and as always, stand by their side in overcoming the challenges facing the media. We will continue to work diligently to improve or amend the journalism and right to information laws, in line with the aspirations of courageous and free-minded journalists, and to strengthen our collective experience.
This year’s anniversary comes at a time when the PUK's media continues to report news and events with seriousness, professionalism, and a strong sense of national and Kurdish identity. We are committed to delivering information with integrity and responsibility. Our recent decision to refrain from publishing death-related news is a reflection of our deep sense of social and ethical accountability.
We extend our best wishes to all journalists in Kurdistan on this special day and look forward to continued collaboration to foster a freer, more supportive environment for journalism.
Happy Kurdish Journalism Day.
