Deputy PM, British Ambassador Discuss Bilateral Relations and Regional Progress

The Deputy PM’s meeting with newly British Ambassador.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, welcomed Irfan Siddiq, the newly appointed British Ambassador to Iraq.
During their meeting, both sides exchanged views on a range of topics of mutual interest, including reinforcing the historic ties between the Kurdish people and the United Kingdom. They stressed the importance of further enhancing bilateral relations at this pivotal time.
The Deputy PM highlighted that there are promising opportunities for British companies and investors in the Kurdistan Region, and affirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) readiness to provide all necessary support and facilitation.
Another key point of discussion was the issue of illegal migration among young people. In this regard, Deputy PM stressed that the most effective way to curb such migration is by developing and strengthening the local economy.
For his part, the British Ambassador reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting the KRG in its efforts towards reconstruction and economic growth.
The wider situation in the region was also addressed, with both parties underscoring the need for ongoing progress to bolster security and stability in a way that benefits all communities. The meeting also touched on the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. The Deputy PM remarked, “We have made significant progress in resolving issues through dialogue and within the framework of the Constitution.”
Finally, they discussed the formation of a new government in the Kurdistan Region. The Deputy PM referenced recent discussions between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, expressing optimism about the agreements reached and the prospects for establishing a strong, efficient, and service-driven government in the near future.
