Overnight missile exchanges between India and Pakistan have resulted in 34 confirmed fatalities, marking one of the most significant escalations in recent years. The hostilities began on 6th May following India’s launch of Operation Sindoor, which it stated was aimed at targeting suspected militant infrastructure in areas administered by Pakistan, including parts of Kashmir.
Casualties
India: Authorities report at least 8 civilian deaths and 47 injuries attributed to artillery fire originating from across the Line of Control (LoC).
Pakistan: Officials confirm 26 civilian fatalities, including one child, with 46 others injured in the aftermath of Indian missile strikes.
Military Engagement
India: Pakistan claims to have downed one Indian JF-17 fighter jet. India has not confirmed any military personnel casualties.
Pakistan: Pakistan asserts it has brought down five Indian aircraft—including three Rafales, one Su-30MKI, and one MiG-29—and reports damage to military installations. India has not commented on these claims.
International Response
The international community has voiced strong concern over the escalation. The United Nations and several countries, including the United States, China, Russia, and France, have called for restraint and urged both sides to seek peaceful resolution.
Diplomatic efforts are underway, with countries such as Iran offering to mediate in the interest of regional stability.
The situation continues to evolve, with further developments anticipated as both sides remain on high alert.
