Israeli PM, Benjamin Netanyahu.
On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held his first press conference in five months, during which he outlined Israel’s current military objectives in Gaza and addressed broader regional concerns, including Iran.
According to a report by The Guardian, Netanyahu stated that Israel aims to bring the entire Gaza Strip under its security control by the end of the ongoing operation, describing this as necessary to address the influence of Hamas and to ensure the country’s long-term safety. He said, “We will not stop until Hamas is dismantled and the hostages are brought home.”
He also indicated a willingness to consider a temporary ceasefire if it would help secure the safe release of hostages currently held by Hamas, while cautioning that an early end to the conflict could allow Hamas to maintain its position.
Regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza, Netanyahu said Israel would permit a limited flow of food into the area. He further announced plans to establish a US-supported Gaza Humanitarian Foundation to coordinate the delivery and distribution of aid.
On the matter of Iran, Netanyahu reiterated concerns about the country’s regional activities. He noted ongoing cooperation with the United States and expressed hope for a diplomatic outcome that would prevent nuclear proliferation. At the same time, he emphasised Israel’s right to take necessary measures to protect its national security.
