PUK-Led Kurdish Delegation Visits Khanaqin.
On Thursday, 22 May 2025, a delegation representing the Kurdish blocs in the Iraqi parliament paid a visit to the city of Khanaqin, responding to a request made by Kurdish parties—particularly the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Organisations Centre. The purpose of the visit was to assess the city’s challenges and requirements first-hand and to follow up on ongoing developments from all perspectives.
The delegation was received by Khanaqin’s mayor, officials from the PUK’s Khanaqin Organisation Centre, and other governmental and party representatives.
In a press briefing, Mayor Jawad Faydullah stated, “We presented several vital projects to the delegation, and we could sense their genuine interest in solving our problems. Among the key issues are the official recognition of Garmian University, the establishment of the Alwand refinery, shortages in water and electricity, administrative difficulties at the Khanaqin Nationality and Civil Status Directorate, and complications with truck movement at the Bawa Mahmoud checkpoint.”
Harem Kamal Agha, Leader of the PUK bloc in the Iraqi parliament, remarked, “We came to Khanaqin to thoroughly examine the issues its residents are facing.
