CTG Forces Conduct Joint Operation with International Coalition in Garmian

The Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG), in coordination with International Coalition forces, has conducted a joint security operation targeting Islamic State (ISIS) elements in the Garmian Administration. The operation resulted in the seizure of multiple hideouts and logistical supplies used by the terrorist organisation.

In an official statement, the CTG announced that the mission was carried out to safeguard the security and stability of the region’s citizens and to eliminate ongoing threats posed by ISIS. The operation was undertaken by the General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism in partnership with Coalition forces committed to combating terrorism.

The statement confirmed that several hideouts were uncovered during the raid, and various items of equipment and supplies were confiscated.

The CTG reiterated its commitment to the continued fight against terrorism, emphasising that the task of dismantling the remaining ISIS infrastructure remains a shared responsibility with both local and international partners.

ISIS captured large parts of Iraq in 2014 and declared a self-styled “caliphate,” leading to widespread violence and mass displacement. Although Iraq declared victory over the group in 2017, ISIS remnants remain active, particularly in disputed territories between the federal government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government.

These areas—including parts of Kirkuk, Nineveh, Diyala, and Saladin provinces—continue to face threats from ISIS elements who engage in ambushes, kidnappings, and extortion targeting both civilians and security personnel.

Iraqi and Kurdish security forces regularly carry out joint operations aimed at eradicating these remaining terrorist networks.
