White House: Trump to Announce Decision on Iran–Israel Conflict Within Fortnight

The White House Press Secretary has announced that US President Donald Trump is expected to make a definitive decision within the next two weeks regarding America’s stance on the ongoing escalation between Israel and Iran.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday evening, 19 June 2025, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested that all options remain under consideration, including the possibility of a military strike against Iran.

Leavitt stated that “there is a significant opportunity for negotiations, which may or may not take place with Iran in the near future,” adding that “no one should be surprised by President Trump’s position” towards Tehran.

She further noted that President Trump has “provided ample room and invested considerable effort in pursuing a diplomatic solution with Iran,” referencing ongoing US attempts to de-escalate tensions in the region.

Leavitt emphasised that “the entire world agrees with President Trump that Iran must not be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon,” and described him as “a president who stands for peace through strength and is unafraid to act accordingly.” She added, “The Iranians are keen to engage with the White House,” and highlighted that “the proposal put forward by Special Envoy Witkoff was both realistic and acceptable.”

On 17 June, President Trump convened a high-level meeting with senior officials in the White House Situation Room to discuss the conflict, which began with Israeli strikes on Iran and the potential for US involvement.

In remarks made in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump stated that he had not yet reached a final decision regarding a possible strike on Iran, but expressed reluctance to become entangled in another conflict in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left open the possibility of US participation in the conflict with Iran, stating that the decision ultimately lies with President Trump.

“He will do what he believes is best for America, and I will do what is best for Israel,” Netanyahu told reporters at Soroka Hospital in southern Israel, adding that the US president “knows how the game is played.”
