PUK President Meets DEM Party Delegation, Reaffirms Commitment to Peace Process

PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani's meeting with the DEM Party delegation.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received a senior delegation from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah.
The visiting delegation included Tülay Hatimoğulları, Co-Chair of the DEM Party; Keskin Bayındır, Co-Chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP); and DEM Party MPs Serhat Eren and Mehmet Kamaç.
During the meeting, President Bafel Talabani warmly welcomed the initial steps towards disarmament taken by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), describing it as a historic opportunity.
“Now is the time to heal the wounds and open a new chapter in North Kurdistan and Türkiye—one built on peace and coexistence,” he said.
President Bafel reaffirmed his commitment to the legacy of President Mam Jalal Talabani:
“President Mam Jalal was the principal architect of the peace process and was the first to open the door to dialogue between Qandil and Ankara. We are determined to carry forward his vision.”
For their part, the DEM Party delegation expressed appreciation for the continued support and constructive role played by President Bafel and the PUK in advancing the peace process. They briefed him on the latest developments and reiterated the importance of the PUK’s contribution to its success.
