Deputy PM Reaffirms Kurdistan’s Willingness to Resolve Issues with Baghdad

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, welcomed Liu Jun, the Chinese Consul General to the Kurdistan Region.
During their meeting, Qubad Talabani expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for its support to the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the fields of human capacity development and economic growth. He voiced his hope that future initiatives would allow a greater number of citizens to benefit from these capacity-building programmes.
They also discussed the state of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. In this context, the Deputy Prime Minister outlined the recent agreement between the two sides concerning the resolution of the salary issue and the resumption of oil exports, which he conveyed to the Chinese Consul General. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to resolving all outstanding matters with the federal government in line with the Iraqi Constitution.
Qubad Talabani Urges Türkiye to Reopen Airspace Amid Broader Peace Talks
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, welcomed Anil Bora Inan, the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, in Erbil.
The meeting, which was also attended by the Turkish Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, focused on recent developments in Türkiye’s peace process and relations between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government.
Qubad Talabani hailed the disarmament of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) as a historic milestone, expressing optimism that the remaining stages of the peace process would proceed smoothly. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s full support for the process and stated the Region’s readiness to offer any form of assistance required to ensure its success.
The discussions also touched upon the matter of Sulaymaniyah International Airport. Deputy Prime Minister Talabani urged Türkiye to reopen its airspace to flights departing from the airport.
Furthermore, the two sides addressed the broader relationship between the Region and Baghdad. In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister described the recent agreement between Erbil and Baghdad to resolve the salary issue and resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region as a significant step towards improving bilateral ties. He noted, “The Kurdistan Region is committed to resolving all its disputes with Baghdad in accordance with the Constitution.”
The Turkish Ambassador, for his part, welcomed the agreement and voiced his hope that ties between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad would continue to grow stronger.
