Accounting researcher and academic Dr Sakar Amin has described Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), as the expert and the driving force behind resolving this crisis.”
In remarks made during her appearance on the programme 'Another Perspective,' broadcast on Al-Masra TV, Dr Amin also addressed the ongoing salary challenges in the Kurdistan Region, highlighting the critical role played by PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani in resolving the issue.
Touching on the delayed salaries of public sector employees in the Kurdistan Region, Dr Amin stressed that the issue was fundamentally political, not financial or technical in nature. “The delay in salaries is a political problem,” she asserted, adding that “Bafel Talabani was the expert and the driving force behind resolving this crisis.”
She explained that President Talabani’s broad political acceptance across the spectrum and his influence in Baghdad made him uniquely positioned to act. “I called on Bafel Talabani to intervene and head to Baghdad,” she said. “He did intervene, and as a result, the salary issue was resolved and funds were transferred to the region.”
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi Federal Government have reached an agreement on several key issues—most notably the payment of public sector salaries—following a visit to Baghdad by Bafel Jalal Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
After the agreement, both the KRG and the federal government complied with its terms, and the distribution of salaries to public sector employees in the Kurdistan Region commenced last Friday and concluded on Sunday, ending a delay of nearly 90 days.
The recent breakthrough is seen by the public as a significant step toward easing tensions and restoring stability in the region’s financial administration.
