Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met on Monday, 11 August 2025, with Mohamed al-Hassan, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq.

The discussions covered political, security, and economic developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region, emphasising the importance of addressing issues in accordance with the constitution.

President Bafel underlined the need to unite efforts to resolve the salary crisis affecting the people of the Kurdistan Region, stating: “The prolongation of this conflict will affect the stability of our country. Therefore, the best solution for all parties is to abide by the agreements, as we will not allow the lives of our people to be jeopardised any more.”

The upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections were also discussed, with both sides stressing the importance of holding transparent and fair elections.
