IHEC Announces Voter Statistics in Kurdistan Region as Second Election Simulation Nears

Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) released updated statistics on the number of voters in the Kurdistan Region’s governorates ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, as preparations continue for a second simulation exercise.
IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA that as of 4 August 2025, the number of voters in the Kurdistan Region’s governorates has reached 3,883,501.
According to Ghalai, in Duhok, the number of voters is 940,496, in Erbil it is 1,410,112, and in Sulaymaniyah it stands at 1,532,893.
She explained that the number of biometrically registered voters in the Kurdistan Region is 3,070,839, while 812,662 voters remain unregistered biometrically.
Ghalai also clarified that:
-First-time registrations have reached 145,617.
-Newly registered voters born in 2007 number 8,898.
-Additional voters total 7,800.
The Commission is currently preparing to conduct its second mock election, following the successful completion of the first trial.
Ghalai noted: “The second simulation will include the use of electronic verification devices with integrated cameras, results acceleration devices, and transmission systems, with results sent directly to servers at the National Office. The process will cover all governorate electoral offices for both general and special voting, with the number of stations to be determined at a later stage.”
Iraq’s Council of Ministers previously approved 11 November 2025 as the date for the next parliamentary elections during its session on 9 April this year.
