The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) spokesperson visited Kirkuk on Monday, 15 September 2025, meeting with Governor Rebwar Taha to reaffirm the party’s stance that Kirkuk is a city of coexistence for all its communities.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Karwan Gazneyi, PUK spokesperson, stated: “The purpose of our visit to Kirkuk is to emphasise the policy of the PUK and President Bafel Jalal Talabani that Kirkuk is a city of coexistence among all its communities, and that everyone must be served without discrimination.”
Gazneyi praised the governor’s performance, adding: “The governor has provided significant services to Kirkuk, demonstrating that we respond with actions, not words, to the malicious propaganda directed against us.” He also urged parties boycotting the Kirkuk Provincial Council to return to sessions, asserting that the province should be administered through council work rather than statements on social media. He stressed the importance of following President Mam Jalal’s policy of consolidating peace and brotherhood while supporting the administration in delivering service projects.
Governor Rebwar Taha, in turn, said: “These visits reflect the importance of Kirkuk to the PUK and President Bafel Jalal Talabani.”
On the issue of congestion at the city’s checkpoints, Governor Taha explained: “A system has been established by the Council of Ministers to manage trucks at the entrances to all cities. Following my contact with Lieutenant General Abdul Karim al-Sudani, Secretary to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, it was decided to send a committee to Kirkuk this week to resolve the congestion urgently.”
