President Mam Jalal.
Rifaat Abdullah, Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has issued a heartfelt message on the eighth anniversary of the passing of President Mam Jalal Talabani.
In his statement, Abdullah described Mam Jalal as “the leader of all ages and the pride of the nation,” emphasising that even after eight years his wisdom, vision, and political legacy remain vital for Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and beyond.
“Although eight years have passed since your departure, we feel your presence and greatness ever more strongly. Not only the PUK, but also friends and rivals alike, at home and abroad, continue to need your wisdom, political insight, patriotic vision, and wealth of experience,” Abdullah wrote.
He stressed that the continued recognition of the PUK in international forums as “the party of Mam Jalal” is a source of pride for the Kurdish people. Abdullah reaffirmed that the PUK remains a “sacred trust,” now under the leadership of President Bafel Jalal Talabani, combining the experience of older generations with the energy of youth to secure the future.
The Vice President also highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation among Kurdish political forces, pledging to strengthen solidarity on common Kurdish and Iraqi issues in service of the nation.
Reaffirming his loyalty, Abdullah declared: “Rest assured, even if Safin collapses, the PUK shall never fall. May your soul rest in peace. Your memory will forever live on in history.”
