The 7th Sulaymaniyah International Book Fair concluded on Monday, 13 October 2025, with organisers announcing detailed statistics and outcomes during a press conference marking the end of the event.
According to the organisers, this year’s exhibition showcased 50,000 book titles, including more than 3,500 new releases displayed for the first time. The fair drew significant participation from publishers, readers, and guests throughout its duration.
President Mam Jalal Edition
Speaking at the closing press conference, Karwan Rasul, representative of the President Jalal Talabani Foundation (PJTF), said: “This exhibition is named the President Mam Jalal Edition in honour of President Mam Jalal’s deep love for writing and books. Our institution stands ready to support any initiative related to literature, publishing, and intellectual development.”
He added that the event was held successfully and expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to its organisation and success.
Cultural Cooperation and Shared Success
Nawzad Abdulaziz, Advisor to the Ministry of Culture and Youth of the Kurdistan Region, commended the exhibition, saying: “The Ministry supports the opening of book fairs in both Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, scheduled at different times to attract a wider audience. We thank the President Jalal Talabani Foundation for their cooperation and participation. Fortunately, the exhibition has achieved its intended goals.”
Wider Attention and Continued Growth
Haji Hassan, a representative of the exhibition organisers, expressed appreciation to media outlets and security agencies for their coverage and support throughout the event.
He noted that the number of displayed titles increased compared to previous years — rising from an average of 40,000–45,000 to over 50,000 titles — while 3,500 were exhibited for the first time.
He added that despite a decrease in visitor turnout due to the ongoing financial crisis affecting the region, the fair continued to attract a strong audience, achieving around 50% of last year’s visitor numbers.
The Sulaymaniyah International Book Fair continues to serve as a leading cultural event in the Kurdistan Region, celebrating literature, intellectual exchange, and the legacy of President Mam Jalal Talabani’s lifelong dedication to knowledge and culture.
