Qubad Talabani’s meeting with Turkish Ambassador.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, stated that the lifting of Türkiye’s ban on Jalal Talabani International Airport marks an important step towards enhancing relations between the Kurdistan Region and Ankara.
On Tuesday, 21 October 2025, Qubad Talabani received Anıl Bora İnan, the Turkish Ambassador, for discussions on matters of mutual interest. The meeting was also attended by Arman Topcu, Türkiye’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.
The Deputy Prime Minister commended Ankara’s decision to reopen its airspace to flights to and from Jalal Talabani International Airport, describing it as a move that would further consolidate cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties between the two sides.
The discussions also touched upon the forthcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections. Talabani expressed his hope that the elections would be conducted in a transparent and fair manner with wide public participation, emphasising that their outcome would play a crucial role in shaping the mechanisms for resolving outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad.
