Kirkuk Governor Rebwar Taha laid the foundation stone for Iraq’s first car manufacturing factory.
Kirkuk Governor Rebwar Taha laid the foundation stone for Iraq’s first car manufacturing factory on Monday, 27 October 2025, a major industrial project that marks a new milestone for the province and the country.
The Uruk Factory, which will produce electric, petrol, and diesel vehicles, is the first of its kind in Iraq. Kirkuk will thus become the country’s first province to establish a car production facility.
According to project details, 65% of the vehicles will be manufactured locally in Kirkuk, while 35% of components will be sourced from international partners, including the United States, Germany, and Türkiye.
The factory, with an estimated cost of 300 billion dinars, is expected to produce more than 7,000 vehicles annually and create employment opportunities for over 5,000 citizens of Kirkuk. The project will also adhere to international standards for environmental protection and industrial safety.
