President Rashid Meets King Abdullah II in Amman to Discuss Bilateral Relations

His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, held discussions on bilateral relations and avenues for further cooperation with His Majesty King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, in Amman. The talks covered the full spectrum of bilateral ties, as well as the latest political, security, and economic developments in the region.
President Rashid reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening its historic and fraternal ties with Jordan, emphasising the importance of continued joint efforts to serve the interests of both nations and contribute to regional security, stability, and development.
King Abdullah II warmly welcomed President Rashid and his delegation, praising the deep-rooted relations between Iraq and Jordan and highlighting the need to build on achievements in energy, trade, transportation, and economic integration. Both sides explored ways to expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation, advance joint electrical interconnection projects, facilitate trade and mobility, and encourage Jordanian and Iraqi companies to invest in initiatives that create jobs and foster sustainable growth.
The leaders also addressed regional and international developments, stressing the importance of enhanced Arab consultation and coordination to tackle shared challenges, particularly the ongoing political and economic crises in the region, and the pursuit of peaceful solutions that safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, President Rashid and King Abdullah II reiterated their unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of an independent state. They highlighted the need for de-escalation, protection of civilians, and international action in line with relevant UN resolutions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both leaders stressed the importance of continued communication and consultation to strengthen unity of position, support regional and international security, and promote stability, prosperity, and development for their peoples.
An expanded session followed, chaired by President Rashid and King Abdullah II, with the attendance of members of the Iraqi and Jordanian delegations. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade, and coordinating on issues of mutual interest.
Attending from Iraq were Dr. Ali al-Shukri, Chairman of the Board of Advisors and Experts at the Presidency, and Guhdar Mohammed Saeed, Director of the President’s Office. Jordan’s delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of the King’s Office Alaa Batayneh, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, alongside other officials.
President Rashid arrived in Amman today on an official visit and was received by King Abdullah II, senior Jordanian officials, and the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan, Omar Barznji.
